Mary Youngs and Northern Skais
1) When and where did you first see your roan, how did you end up with him as yours, and how long have you owned your roan?
The first time I saw Skai was in a video my mom sent me of one of the two yearlings she and my aunt were looking at purchasing together. We have owned her since June 2016 so about a year and a half.
2) Where, what level, and in what classes do you show your roan?
I've mostly shown her in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota at AQHA shows as well as at few open futurities. Skai has competed in western pleasure, Halter, trail, hunter under saddle, and showmanship.
3) What is your favorite thing to do with your roan horse?
My favorite thing to do with Skai is showmanship. Practicing or even just showing in showmanship. It is one of my favorite classes and surprisingly Skai caught on to it pretty quick.
4) What is your favorite memory with your roan horse?
My favorite memory with Skai is winning a western pleasure futurity class against 15 other 2 year olds who for the most part had trainers as their riders. I was not expecting to get a first or to win the futurity overall for the super horse award. I had never had a first place in western pleasure before either which made it even more special.
5) What are your thoughts about the American Roan Horse Association?
I love the American Roan Horse Association, it allows those of us with Roans more opportunities to compete to win awards with our beautiful roans.
