Francesca Wierda and One Code Of Red

1)  When and where did you first see your roan, how did you end up with him as yours, and how long have you owned your roan?

I first saw Ava as a 2 year old. Our trainer, at the time, introduced us to Patrick Heeley.  He was selling Ava for Susan Knapp. She was big and beautiful, I was intimidated by her size and age, but my husband saw her potential we ended up buying her. We've had her for 3 full years now. I've been her partner for one year.

2)  Where, what level, and in what classes do you show your roan?

This pair has been hitting the road and competing in Western Pleasure, novice, amateur, and select classes.  Here is what Francesca had to say about having fun out on the show road.  I started riding and the young age of 50 😊.  In 2018 I started showing Ava. We went all over the place!  The Reindeer Run in Cedar Rapids IA, Bellringer in Denver CO, Winona MN, Cloverdale IN, March of the Arch in St Louis, The Mayflower in Des Moines IA, Cornhusker Lincoln NE, Tom Powers in Michigan, NSBA World in Tulsa, American Royal in Kansas City KS and The Congress In Columbus OH.  All my classes were Novice Western Pleasure and a few select and amateur classes also Western Pleasure.  Of course we couldn’t help but ask what is her favorite thing to do with her roan horse.  The answer is one we have heard many, many times!

3)  What is your favorite thing to do with your roan horse?

RIDE 😊 she's my steady and rides like a Cadillac but she's also fun to take into halter.

4)  What is your favorite memory with your roan horse?
We all have that one moment in time that stick with us on every horse we ride.  That being said we were curious as to Francesca’s best memory.  Her response is awesome…. I'm a nervous rider but Ava took that away gave me confidence which to me is priceless!! The Tom Powers Show, NSBA World and the Congress were the highlights last year. I feel so lucky to have been able to participate on that level with this kind of success.

5)  What are your thoughts about the American Roan Horse Association?

My friend Kelly Birkenholtz told me about the American Roan Horse Association and its programs. It was clear as day to join the program. The payouts are great as are the friendships and the encouragements you receive.
