Janel Faust and A Good Muse

1)  When and where did you first see your roan, how did you end up with him as yours, and how long have you owned your roan?

I was truly blessed the day my husband James surprised me by buying my mare “A Good Muse” or Star from her breeder, Jane Backes about three years ago.  A Good Muse is an own daughter of the legendary Zippos Mr Good Bar and out of Good Invested Miss an own daughter of The Invester.  James simply made my dreams come true from the moment I laid eyes on her at Will Knabenshue’s farm down in Texas it was love at first site and she is my soul horse.   It was a surprise that took months of him looking with the help of a dear friend Faye to find the perfect horse for me.  Due to suffering with an autoimmune disorder my riding and showing days are limited and I have to take the good days as they come and fight to be able ride or show at all.  There was a point in my life I never thought I would be able to show or even ride ever again and thankfully due to the loving support of my husband James and daughter Libby & my trainer Mitch’s training, patience are support of me, and care of Star, I am able to fulfill livelong dreams.  Star has made it all possible and takes good care of me with every ride and in every pattern - Every time I take the lead or climb up in the saddle it is a WIN for me in so many ways.

2)  Where, what level, and in what classes do you show your roan?

A Good Muse is under the guidance of Mitch Adkins of Boone Iowa.  Mitch currently shows Star in AQHA & NSBA Open Events focusing on the trail events.  I show Star in Level 1 Amateur classes with a focus in Showmanship and all around Walk Trot Events.

3)  What is your favorite thing to do with your roan horse?

Any moment I can spend with her is a blessing and I take every moment from feeding her favorite treats to walking into the show pen.

4)  What is your favorite memory with your roan horse?
Winning the Novice Showmanship at the Nebraska Silver Classic this past fall and reaching all the 2018 show goals I had set for us!

5)  What are your thoughts about the American Roan Horse Association?

I was very excited to find an outlet that recognizes the beautiful and rare Roan horses.   Having another outlet to share our beautiful roany ponies is great and I’m excited to continue our adventure with showing ARHA partnered shows.
